Many people experience burnout at some point in their lives. Business owners and the self-employed are even more likely to fall prey to burnout because the buck stops with them. Having a small business is a dream for many, and Starting a small business can be one of the most rewarding experiences of a lifetime. To avoid burnout and enjoy the journey – and the rewards – more, follow these tips:

Make sure your goals are realistic:
Before you delve too deeply into your business blog, do some research and ask questions from those who know because they’ve been through the process you’re considering undertaking. How long did it take them to reach their goals? What was the process they went through? Make sure that your goals are in line with the current realities of the Internet as well as your available time, resources, and talents.

Get Organized:
One thing that tends to overwhelm small business owners is that there is always so much to do. The feeling that you’ll never get everything done can feel like a limitless inbox. Getting organized is one way to minimize stress and prevent burn out. Organizing your office helps. This means eliminating papers you no longer need, de-cluttering your desk and also creating a spreadsheet of what needs to get done and when. Prioritizing what you need to get done daily, weekly, monthly and yearly is a great way to put your goals in perspective.

Establish realistic expectations for what you can and cannot accomplish:
If you find that you’re driving yourself or your employees too hard it may be time to let go of unrealistic expectations and readjust. Shorten your to-do list, give yourself some slack when needed and know when to let up on yourself and others.

Manage the clock:
A lack of time management skills can seriously contribute to burnout.  If you’re not managing your time well, deadlines creep up faster, you find yourself rushing everywhere, and you might end up dealing with the added stress of letting people down by not being able to follow through as you promise.  There are a lot of online tools to help you manage your time, and technology can make a big difference in this area
